Ketamine Infusion Therapy
Overview

Initial therapies vary depending on your specific medical needs. The initial therapy can include one or more treatments in the first week. We will evaluate your progress closely during and after the initial therapy and develop an individualized maintenance protocol based on your specific needs.  You will receive ongoing infusions thereafter, which are known as maintenance sessions.

1

Preparing for your therapy

  • Liquids such as water or black coffee may be consumed up to four hours before the start of the procedure.

  • Avoid consuming solid food or dairy products for at least six hours prior to treatment.

  • Alcohol and other illicit drugs should be avoided prior to ketamine therapy.

  • Take your normal medications the morning of your treatment with a sip of water.

  • If you are taking Benzodiazepines and other pain-controlling narcotics, please discuss with our clinical team prior, as it may reduce the effectiveness of infusion therapy.

  • Remember to bring your ID and have transportation set up for after your therapy.

2

During your therapy

  • The infusion you will receive will not put you to sleep, but you may feel relaxed enough to fall asleep.

  • The length and dose of the infusion depend on your diagnosis.

  • Your vital signs will be closely monitored by a certified medical professional (Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner) throughout the infusion.

  • No food is permitted during the infusion.

  • Wearing comfortable clothing is recommended and patients are permitted to bring pillows and blankets if so desired. We do provide pillows and blankets.

  • We have speakers in our therapy rooms that can provide calming music or sounds.

  • We recommend turning off or silencing cell phones during treatment.

3

After your therapy

  • You must have someone drive you home after your infusion.

  • Prescribed medication can be consumed normally after the effects of the procedure have worn off.

  • Do not drive or operate heavy machinery for 24 hours.

  • Fatigue, dizziness, nausea and other mild side effects may occur, and normally resolve shortly after the completion of treatment.

  • In the event of rare, but possible chest pain, hives, shortness of breath, increased weakness, or other forms of allergic reactions, patients should immediately seek medical attention.
